GreeNexUS, an urban regeneration project to train 10 new specialists in green and healthy solutions
"Green-health-safety Nexus for new Urban Spaces": the project will be active until the end of 2026 and provides training-through-research of 10 doctoral candidates
GreeNexUS aims to train 10 new specialists with a multidisciplinary and cutting-edge expertise that will allow them to elaborate and communicate sustainable solutions for greener, healthier and safer/accessible urban areas.
In our increasingly anthropised planet, many cities face multiple societal and environmental challenges. The link between the characteristics of the urban green contexts and people's health and safety represents an emerging topic and of urgent importance. Air pollution and urban climate, limited access to quality green spaces, and urban fabrics and infrastructure that discourage sustainable and safe mobility and active lifestyles, are threatening the mental and physical well-being of an aging society and increasing its social disparities.
"The project focuses on the synergy between health, safety and green urban design—one that makes our towns and cities better for the environment and for people" says project coordinator Cesare Sangiorgi, from Università di Bologna.
To do so, GreeNexUS proposes a novel and multidisciplinary approach to promote urban greening, territorial regeneration and safety/accessibility/walkability of urban infrastructures, as key strategies to face those challenges. In parallel, it addresses climate change and pandemic prevention from exacerbating inequalities in disadvantaged/vulnerable groups.
The ICONS team participates in the launch of the project and in maximising its outreach, by designing its online public image and providing communication training for all the doctoral candidates.
The call for 10 Ph.D. positions is now open. The detailed job descriptions are available on the EURAXESS portal and on the GreeNexUS project website:
